Brief History and Mission of the HHSBn
The Headquarters and Headquarters Service Battalion, 8th Infantry Division, Philippine Army was originally organized as the Headquarters Service Company during the activation of the 8th Infantry Brigade (Separate), Philippine Army on 16 May 1986 in Barangay Santol, San Miguel, Leyte.
On 17 October 1987, the 8th Infantry Brigade (S), Philippine Army transferred its headquarters and occupied the former headquarters of the defunct Regional Unified Command VIII, in Camp Lukban, Catbalogan, Samar.
On 01 august 1988, 8th Infantry Brigade (S), Philippine Army was elevated into division level and eventually the Headquarters and Headquarters Company was also upgraded into Headquarters and Headquarters Service Battalion.
Mission and Functions.
To provide administrative, security and service support to the division headquarters. The unit has following functions to accomplish its assigned mission:
a. Provide administrative and organizational support to the division headquarters.
b. Provide security for Camp Lukban and its installation as well as to visiting VIPs.
c. Enforce military laws, post rules and regulations and promote order and discipline within the camp.
d. To provide escort and security services to the H8ID, PA command and general specials staff.
e. Provide band and combo entertainment to H8ID, PA and during ceremonies when required.
h. Assist in calamity/disaster rescue and relief operations as directed by the command.
i. Undertake repair and construction of building facilities inside post.
j. UPR during ceremonies, Saturday Inspection and other command activities as directed.
k. Conduct at least twice a year dry run on camp defense and fire plan.
Following units were under the administrative control of HHSBn:
81st RECON - Brgy Caticugan, Sta Rita, Samar.
82nd RECON - Brgy Buanza, Indanan, Sulu
83rd RECON - Camp Downes, Ormoc City
